Inherit the Wind - November 06 - November 09, 2025

University Liggett School

 End Notes

On History, the right to think, and progress...

The Players at University Liggett School are proud to present the American Classic Inherit the Wind written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee.  The Authors’ Notes at the beginning of the script are a telling statement about the timeless courtroom drama, and the very important themes presented then, and now.

As stated…

“INHERIT THE WIND does not pretend to be journalism. It is theater. It is not 1925. The stage directions set the time as “Not too long ago.” It might have been yesterday. It could be tomorrow”. This clear statement to the important and lasting impact of the script sets a unique challenge for all theater companies, let alone the Players!

Join this talented group as they wrestle with the core arguments of an individual’s right to think, and how that is balanced against the ever flowing tide of progress. Note that we have chosen "it might have been yesterday and it could be tomorrow" as a time frame. The show presents arguments via social media, and other modern tools that lean in to progress or the lack thereof!

The Players have been selected as a main stage show at the Educational Theater Association’s State Theater Festival Saturday, December 13, 2025. This is their ninth invitation to this prestigious event and follows a line of success. Last seen on mainstage in 2023 was the production of Radium Girls, and in 2019 they presented Twelve Angry Jurors. Director Phillip Moss has been part of many excellent shows over the past 42 years, but finds this classic literature “a true gem”.  It is a love story, a courtroom drama, a theme that is everlasting, and a challenge for our students.
