Act 1
Hansel and Gretel are avoiding their chores. Mother comes home to find the cottage a mess, and in her frustration she knocks over the only food in the house: the milk jug. She sends Hansel and Gretel into the woods to pick strawberries for dinner.
Father returns home with a plethora of delicious food after a successful day selling brooms. He asks Mother where Hansel and Gretel have gone, and she tells him she has sent the children to the woods. He tells her the story of the witch that lives in the
Act 2
Hansel and Gretel pick strawberries and play in the forest. They lose their way and become frightened by the darkening forest. The Sandman appears and puts the children to sleep with his magic sleep dust.
Act 3
At dawn, the Dew Fairy appears and wakes the children. The children spy a cottage in the woods-The Witch’s cottage. They start to nibble the cottage and soon The Witch appears.
She tries to lure the children into her cottage. She puts a spell on the children and tries to make Hansel gain weight. The children use their wits to stay one step ahead of The Witch’s motives.
