Much Ado About Nothing is the original romantic comedy! Filled with fun characters, witty banter and many weddings, it follows Benedick and Beatrice, whose friends trick them into loving one another “with so much of my heart that none of it is left to protest with”. It’s an old play, it’s true, but its beating heart is so achingly modern, I knew that it was the right choice for our Fall Play, which would be done entirely virtually.
What you are about to see was filmed entirely in the homes of these fifteen incredibly talented and hard-working high schoolers. It couldn’t have been done without the help of so many people: all of their work must be recognized, but none more so than Sarah Mackus, whose video editing skills created this product from hundreds of individual videos. I also want to thank every single person who is helping to bolster and keep the arts alive through everything. You’re all heroes.
So! What do you need to know to enjoy this virtual Much Ado? Well...
The year is now. Don Pedro, Prince of someplace, is fighting in a war. What war? Who knows. Who cares. Don Pedro is brother to Don John, who fights for the other side. When Don Pedro wins the war, he offers Don John a pardon, but they've still got bad blood.
Don Pedro is now on his way to hang out with his best bud, Leonato, who owns a beautiful Palm Beach house, where his daughter Hero and his niece Beatrice also live. Don Pedro brings his friends Benedick and Claudio, who are soldiers.
What will happen at LEONATO's? Let’s go find out.
