Director's Notes

Nearly a year ago, while perusing scripts for a future One Act Play entry, I ran across a little jewel of a show called Peter and the Starcatcher. That another version of the Peter Pan story would capture my attention is no surprise; I've been entranced with the tale of the boy who wouldn't grow up since my own long ago high school theater days. Something about this twist on the venerable play, however, wouldn't leave me be. Images of students on stage and in character (Peter, Molly, Smee, Black Stache) zoomed about in my brain, and that Zen-like tingle that signals a match between text and teen began to grow.

Despite some initial reluctance from the kids (who knew nothing about the show and distrust adult opinions on principle), plans moved forward, and a buzz began at the first table read. They liked it. They really liked it! A few months later, the show debuted at the 2017 One Act Play Competition, where we earned third place overall, three on the All Star Cast, and Best Actor -- the Boy himself, Seth Rozelle!

Many thanks to the following groups and individuals who helped make this production such a success:

  • Dana Rozelle for her untiring efforts and reassuring presence at every show. We will miss you next year!!!
  • Catherine Kelsey for her assistance with costumes. (Molly's dress is quite lovely.)
  • Doug Warden for the beautiful "trunks that might be identical to other trunks."
  • Jeremy Williams for his calming influence in times of stress.
  • Warner Robins Little Theatre for the use of certain crucial set pieces.
  • The VHS Administration team. Mr. Christopher Brown, we truly appreciate you.
  • All of the parents who allowed their children to join this production and helped with various aspects of the show.
  • Mrs. Kitchens and the VHS Graphics Department.
  • Eddie Carioli for his time and talents spent building set pieces.
  • The cast and crew of Peter and the Starcatcher. You are the very best kids. Anywhere. Hands down.
