Disney's High School Musical JR. - May 06 - May 08, 2021

Voorhees Middle School

 DIRECTOR'S NOTE

This year has been like no other.  Masks, quarantining, Zoom, online learning, and more has put an incredible strain on our students.  They have become experts on all things digital, whether it is classwork or choreography.  These students you are about to see perform have done what others have called the impossible.  They are putting on a show in the midst of a pandemic and are doing a phenomenal job.

Rehearsals took on a completely new aspect as we navigated Covid restrictions, quarantine, and schedule conflicts.  Auditions, callbacks, learning the beginning choreography and all vocals were done online.  Choreography took up most of all rehearsals, so blocking for scenes was pushed further and further back in the schedule until a few weeks before the show. When the students were finally allowed to come in, they had to remain apart from the friends many had not seen in person for almost a year.  It was hard to make new friends with a mask and 6 feet as a barrier, but these students did it.  Through countless hours of rehearsal, they have bonded together as a family. They have learned perseverance, flexibility, and compassion.  They have been there cheering on their classmates through thick or thin.

Through restrictions changing and dates fluctuating, these students have truly embodied the theme of this show: “We’re all in this together.” Please enjoy the Voorhees Middle School Drama Club’s production of “High School Musical, Jr.”
