A note from the director
Thank you for supporting the live performing arts here in Frederick County and at Walkersville High School. My love for theatre was sparked in the 3rd grade when I was cast as Clara in our class production of The Nutcracker. Almost thirty years later, the curtian is rising on my eigth season here with WHS Theatre. I am so excited to share my passion with my students and with you, the audience, tonight with our production of Dracula!
As a recovering English teacher, a future librarian, and a self proclaimed bibliophile, I find myself drawn to literature inspired scripts. I have had the script for Dracula sitting on my wish pile for years, just waiting for the right group of students and the Halloween weekend slot. And here we are. Tonight you're in for a creepy journey across the ocean and back in time to the world created in 1897 by Irish author Bram Stoker.
The small cast requirement of this script provided a unique challenge for me and Amy Graunke as we considered casting the large number of students who auditioned. We looked to students who had an interest in writing and tasked them with researching the history of black comedies and creating two additional skits to suppliment and include all the students in a meaningful way. We hope you enjoy their creativity!
This production has provided so many wonderful leadership opportunities for the students and outlets for incredible creativity. They have risen to the challenges presented and I am incredibly proud of their accomplishments.
So sit back and enjoy our creation. It's sure to make the hair on the back of your neck stand on end.
Theatrically yours,
Heather McFadden
