SYNOPSIS
Fiddler on the Roof tells the story of Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman in the small village of Anatevka, as he navigates life with his wife Golde and their five daughters. Set in early 20th-century Russia, the musical explores Tevye’s struggle to uphold Jewish traditions in the face of social change and political unrest.
As Tevye’s three eldest daughters seek to marry for love rather than through arranged matches, each challenges the traditional values of their family and community. Tevye wrestles with his faith and the conflicts between his deep-seated beliefs and his love for his daughters, all while the threat of forced relocation looms over the Jewish community due to rising anti-Semitism from the Russian authorities.
At its heart, Fiddler on the Roof is about balancing the old ways with a rapidly changing world, much like a fiddler trying to keep their balance atop a roof. With memorable songs like "Tradition," "Matchmaker," and "If I Were a Rich Man," the musical explores universal themes of family, love, and resilience, as the villagers face an uncertain future.
