     Ten years ago, Beauty and the Beast Jr. was the first show I chose and directed at Warrensburg-Latham High School. My youngest son, Grant, was a senior and I was approached by some of his friends and their parents because the spring musical was in danger of being cancelled due to not being able to find a director. After some heavy arm twisting from those parents and encouragement from my son (“Sadly, Mom, you are the most qualified.”), I agreed to fill in for the year. My daughter, Alyssa, agreed to be the music director and work alongside me. Surprise! We had SO much fun that we signed up for another year!

     WLHS Drama has grown since my first year in 2014. After selling out every performance our first year, the administration suggested adding a Sunday matinee and by parent request, a dinner theatre was begun five years ago. Now, more than ever, our drama program continues to rise to the next level because of student and parental involvement.

      This cast and crew has been amazing to work with! They pitch in and help in all aspects of the show-- lead warmups, teach music, choreograph dances, organize props, create the program, run rehearsal music, help make props and costumes, clean and organize the closet, build and paint sets, help move and set up the sound system, help find supplies to order, solicit more cast members and backstage crew, move sets backstage, sell tickets, run spotlights and light cues, participate in publicity opportunities, collect advertisements, set up and execute special effects, apply makeup, prepare and serve the dinner theater, create the cast photo board, donate and serve in the concession stand, and help with general cleaning and organization. Then as soon as we finish, they will strike the set. Whew! Parents, grandparents, student directors, and cast, you are taking our show to the next level. Your help is appreciated more than you will ever know!
