Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka JR - July 28 - July 30, 2021

West Classical Academy

  Directors' Note

Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka JR is more than just a celebration of imagination, it is a morality play of the highest calibre. What happens when we explore excess - including too much pain, too much loss, or too much lack?

We all have pain; we all have an excess of something. The question is, what do we do with our “too much?” Through the eyes of children and the safety of story, we are given a clear vision of the ways in which our choices inform who we are and who we might become. Will we give in to the temptation to greedily consume our weight in chocolate? Will we defy our parents to seek fame and fortune to the glory of ourselves? Will we respect our families and embrace the virtues of honesty and love like Charlie?

We are invited to believe there is still good in the world and that if we dare to choose our thoughts wisely, love boldly and give without reservation, there is a great reward at the end of the story. Even when all feels lost.

Enjoy the Show!
