DIRECTOR'S NOTE:

In choosing James and the Giant Peach, I wanted to cater to a younger audience this year but still choose something challenging and interesting for our cast and crew to perform. The message of James is that having people love, care for, and support you on life’s journey is critical for all of us. Sometimes the friends we make along the way are the best ones for that job.

As the curtain (or in this case, the projector) rises and falls on my fourth show with CenterStage, I have daily reminders that I have some of the hardest working, resilient, and creative young people in CenterStage. The cast and deck managers have been staying nearly every day after school in rehearsal since January, as well as coming in on Saturday to work on our technical elements of the show. What you see would not have been possible were it not for the structures and systems in place by the directors and technical director that came before my time at Westy. I cannot thank them enough for building CenterStage as a place of inclusivity, inspiration, and openness. There have been many changes this year, and so many people have stepped up to make sure that CenterStage continues to grow. Thank you to Lora Davidek and Ariel Higuera for above and beyond support from the Creative Arts Pipeline, to Dr. Justin Davis and Erin Breitenbach for continued support even though they have transitioned into new positions, to Jeff Colebank, Daniel Davidek, and Gail Gober for extra support through the technical challenges and to Dawn Tackett and Viviana Castillo-Carrasquillo for feeding the cast and crew. And, finally to my parents, Vince and Tauna Edwards, for their support. I’ve been doing theatre for over 20 years, and they’ve never missed a show.
