Director’s Note

When we picked Mean Girls for this year’s spring musical, we knew it would be a blast—it’s funny, it’s fierce, and it’s filled with iconic lines and big musical moments. But as we dove deeper, what we found was a story that really resonates with what it means to grow up, fit in, stand out, and figure out who you are.

At its core, Mean Girls isn’t just about high school drama or pink Wednesdays. It’s about navigating identity, learning the power of your voice, and recognizing the impact we have on the people around us. These students brought so much honesty, vulnerability, and humor into the process—it’s been inspiring to watch them not only bring this show to life, but also reflect on what it means in their lives and friendships.

This production has been a true collaboration from start to finish. From the actors and singers to the designers, tech crews, and musicians, every single piece of this show has student hands on it. They’ve worked incredibly hard—long hours, late nights, and tons of teamwork—and I couldn’t be more proud of what they’ve created.

My hope is that tonight, you’ll laugh, sing along, and maybe even think back on your own journey through the jungle that is high school. And if you take one thing away with you, let it be this: kindness always matters. And there’s always a seat at our table.

Thank you for being here and for supporting our young artists.

Music Director's Note

Means Girls is a cautionary tale of contrasts - a tale of trust and betrayal, friends and enemies, mean and… less mean. Between the uptempo frantic ballroom feel of Gretchen Wieners, the Bond-girl-esque dramatics of Regina George’s theme, and the quirky optimistic west-African feel of Cady’s themes, Mean Girls has so much musical contrasts to offer as well.

My direction to the orchestra and the cast throughout the process has been, “revel in the contrast! Love every change.” This show presents the veneer of raunchy punk rock, but underneath is a beautiful story of finding your truest self amongst others who are also searching.

Congratulations to the cast, crew, and orchestra for a fabulous show!
