Notes on the Production
Lone Brick Theatre perceives performance as an amalgam of arts that can occur anywhere there is a willingness to perform and an audience to see. Budgetary and space restrictions, often hinderances to theatrical production, become possibilities to defy common expectation of what constitutes theater. Out of both necessity and artistic vision, theater must be reimagined beyond the conventional proscenium, demolish the fourth wall with a sledge hammer of aesthetic ingenuity.
In keeping with the company's mission statement, Lone Brick Theatre's production of U.S. Drag employs pop-up and immersive theatrical elements. As a facet of the production's artistic vision, each day brings the performance to a new location, emulating the sense of serial attack through a performative invasion of space. The unconventional nature of this pop-up performance style calls upon the dedication and skill of cast and crew alike to quickly adapt to a new theatrical environment ranging from cavernous banquet halls to intimate classrooms. Their willingness and ability to move fluidly in these varying locations speaks volumes of their commitment to the arts and their talent as actors and crew. Working with such individuals has made this production a truly incredible journey.
