I have wanted to direct Xanadu for a few years, and I’m beyond excited that I finally got the opportunity. I remember watching the tour production in La Jolla years ago and spending the whole time laughing, and I can say it was one of my best theatre experiences especially with regards to musical comedy. Even listening to the cast recording makes me crack up, so I wanted the chance to bring that joy and humor to audiences through our talented YAcTors.
As with many of my shows, it took a little magic (some might even say strange magic) to make it come to life, and I’m indebted to all the volunteers and YAT board members who made it possible. To Jerrica, thank you for your dedication, providing us with a live band, and for making these classic songs soar. To Marc, your vision and staging exceeded my expectations, and I am so thankful that you were part of the team. To Trevor, thank you for jumping into your first show with YAT with no fear. Xanadu is now in your capable hands.
To my amazing cast, I could not have asked for a more dedicated and heart-warming ensemble of actors. Beyond Xanadu’s humor is a story about love and art, and you all made my job easier by being excellent examples of when those two passions collide.
