It is a difficult task to put on a musical comedy about “darkness and grief and unspeakable sorrow” in 2022. We have tried our best to find the light within the darkness of our world during this impossibly frustrating time we live in; I imagine the members of the Addams family themselves would do the same.
In this musical, what at first appears to be a silly plot reveals itself to contain rich themes of family bonds, authenticity, laughing when you most want to cry, and learning to get along with people who might not be so different from you after all. These kids have identified with those themes and brough them to life beautifully. I am endlessly proud of them and can’t believe what we have accomplished over this whirlwind of a process.
And I’ll never forget how much we laughed.
