Xanadu is an adaptation of a 1980 film starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly in his final film role. Aptly described in the musical script as a "stinkeroo," one of the only redeeming qualities of the film was its incredible soundtrack. The soundtrack contained five Top 20 singles.
Because of the popularity of the soundtrack, a musical was developed and opened on Broadway in 2007, running for over 500 performances. It was nominated for five Tony Awards.
This musical also marks the last performance for our seniors, Emilee Bauer, Kyle Burmesch, and John Landrum. They began as freshmen in our production of Little Women, which sadly never saw the stage. They are earnest, hardworking students. Their presence in the cast is always positive. Having been through the trauma of canceling a performance two weeks before opening, they appreciate every opportunity to appear on stage. They will be sorely missed. Please give them a warm round of applause during curtain call.
