DIRECTOR'S NOTE
Dear Friends,
This musical was chosen not by myself, nor our staff, but by our students. The number of notes, phone calls and text messages that were recieved over the preceding year, made it very apparent that being part of the musical, Beauty and the Beast, would be a dream come true scenario for a great many of our actors.
At first, I was hestiant, knowing that this very show would be performed all over town during the same year by other schools and programs. But, over the years, I have realized that our job is not merely to instruct but rather to listen and create opportunites and experiences that our community desires. It isn't about myself, our staff, or audience even, but about our performers.
Our performers have a voice that we want to hear and to share, and it is our privilege to make their dreams and desires a reality in this performance.
I hope that the onstage and offstage moments you witness today reflect the dreams come true that are happening through this production which make the infamous, "Tale as Old as Time" number just a bit more special than its ever been before.
As always, thank you for filling a seat and supporting Backlight in the greatest way a person can do.
Sincerely,
Melissa Smith
Executive Director
