Director’s Note:
Like many of you, I grew up watching Steel Magnolias every time it was on TV. It’s one of those classics you can watch over and over again and never get tired of it. I can probably quote it in my sleep at this point.
It wasn’t until later in life that I discovered that the movie was actually based on a play written by Robert Harling. Mr. Harling wrote the play as a way to help grieve the loss of his sister who had passed away due to complications from diabetes.
While this play was born out of grief, its overarching message of love and friendship has come to mean so much to so many. When I first started working on this show, I came across this quote, “Friends become our chosen family.” As we know, life is a series of peaks and valleys. And life would be pretty lonely without our friends to celebrate with us in the good times and stand beside us when we feel hopeless. Oh, and let’s not forget, make us laugh until we cry—my favorite!
Through laughter and even a few tears, the ladies in this cast have poured so much of themselves into this production. I’m so proud of them. We are tickled pink to share this beautiful story with you and we hope you enjoy the show!
