The Miser - May 12 - May 20, 2023

Bruin Theatre Alliance

  SPOTLIGHT

Special congrats to Cameron Strickling who is awarded Bonnabel's

Talented Theatre Student of the Year 2023-2024.

During their freshmen year, Cameron Strickling started to sit in rehearsals and watch actors after school during rehearsals. Mrs. Lanson asked them to audition for the program and Cameron's response was all too obvious that they were not ready to step on stage. They retreated and would only poke their head into the theatre room during lunches to give a friendly wave, smile, and then run away every time Mrs. Lanson handed them a monologue to memorize. Sophomore year, the return from Covid, presented new challenges. Throughout the school year, they sneakily started visiting and bringing along a vibrant group of friends who now all are members of this cast. By August of 2021, Cameron had passed their Talent Theatre audition, was enrolled in the class, and became a Stage Manager for our first production post-Covid, Almost Maine. Students starting to naturally gravitate to Cameron for advice and friendship. During our Main Stage Production of Decision Height, Cameron showed their true potential and led the production as Stage Manager. Cameron came to aid backstage when problems would arise, calmed disagreements before they became arguments, and assisted in every moment during the production to make it as professional as possible. During the May 2022 Theatre awards, Cameron was nominated as Theatre President and was awarded Best Crewbie 2022. We watched Cameron grow into an exceptional and dedicated actor after they were cast in this show for their debut performance. Cameron is a prime example of how Theatre can truly bring out the best of someone's character, leadership, and true potential.
