JagTheatre Mission Statement

Over the course of four years, Carrboro High School Theatre

seeks to expose audiences, performers, and technicians to as wide a variety of genres, artistic processes, and themes as is feasible with current population statistics.  We seek to foster intellectual and emotional growth, spark relevant discussions within the community, and challenge students with different artistic styles.

We are excited to welcome you to the final main stage production of our 2018-2019 Season: Facing Giants!  This year, we wanted to focus on dramatic plotlines that highlight internal conflicts as well as external.  While Twelve Angry Jurors and Into the Woods may seem like very different shows, they each focus on characters facing the "what ifs" of life and struggling with difficult choices along their journeys.  Each play showcases characters standing their ground and often standing alone against much stronger forces.

According to the MTI Study Guide, by using the Grimms' dark fairy tales, “the show’s creators wanted to explore the pain of growing up, communal responsibility, and the values we pass on…”  While Act I follows a happily-ever-after storyline, Act II leads characters deeper into the woods to face darker forces and make harder decisions. Each character is confronted with a fork in the road, a moment of decision that will change their story forever.  As most fairy tales teach a moral, the lesson of Into the Woods is that “there will be times when each of us must journey into the woods but that we must mind the future and the past.”

When our staff chose Into the Woods as our musical production, we knew it would be a challenge in every area as the music can be difficult and the tech elements time-consuming.  Students came in ready to learn and work. They have put in countless hours onstage, backstage, and in the pit. It has been an honor to work with such a dedicated group of artists.  We hope that you enjoy our production of Into the Woods, and thank you for supporting the Arts!

                                                                        Thank you,
