Note from the Music Director

This past year hit the arts world hard.  Not only did so many artists lose income from lack of performance opportunities, but they were also deprived of the sheer magic that only the stage brings.  The sense of community you establish with your cast, the engagement and character depth that goes into creating a role, the pounding, visceral energy of a live audience applause.  But despite the hardship, companies around the country, like CenterStage, found opportunities for art to continue.  The venues may have shifted, and the audience energy felt in a different light, but the craft lived on.  Students and teachers of the arts found ways to virtually keep their communities alive, even if in-person contact was limited.  Theory of Relativity embraces the connections felt between communities, even if face to face contact is limited or never happens at all.  Feelings of love, kindness, sadness, fear, and joy connect all of us, and are what kept us strong during this pandemic.  While theater still has a very different look and feel than it did a year ago, the Theory of Relativity cast committed to the show and each other in a way that is truly inspiring.  Singing and dancing through masks, maintaining social distancing protocols and Zoom rehearsals show how dedicated these students are to their exceptional craft.  They truly grasp the meaning of the show, so appropriate for today’s climate, that despite our distance from each other, we are connected by our feelings.  We all have roles to play in this big, beautiful world, and we are nothing without each other.
