The Hunchback of Notre Dame - July 28 - July 30, 2017

Centerstage Academy

 Director's Note

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is without a doubt the most challenging musical we have produced in my time at Centerstage. Much like the Disney animated feature it is based on, this play explores corruption in the Catholic Church, the love of a crippled hero, and the dangerous passion surrounding a Gypsy dancer. The story has a beautiful message of compassion - something we must never forget to share with each other as human beings. We have enjoyed exploring themes of history, betrayal, hope, longing and unconditional love. Much like our own lives, Hunchback has challenged this group to embrace the idea that a beautiful story does not always play out as a classic fairy tale. It is up to us to look for a brighter future no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in. That is key to life, and what drew me to choose it for our Broadway Production Camp.

I am beyond proud of this cast and crew. We have a diverse cast in terms of age and experience, but I think we can all agree that what is to be presented on this stage is the culmination of hard work and dedication. And for that, I am forever grateful. I want to give a special thanks to my co-directors and producing team, Chloe, Cassie, Jen, and Rebecca for making this production amazing and holding it at such a high standard. They are some of the best professionals out there and your children were lucky to be taught under their instruction.

I wish to personally thank the faculty, volunteers, parents and students of Centerstage Academy that have made this production possible. It could not happen without the collaborative effort of everyone involved.
