An Evening of One Acts - December 18

Chesapeake High School

  Director's Notes

Gossip-

This year I wanted to try directing because it was something I have always kind of been interested in. So I wanted to step into that arena. From cast, to crew, to director meetings and  to editing team meetings I was simply blown out of the water with how much we accomplished overall. It being virtual I was nervous to begin. Because I figured if there was something wrong with internet connection,  families being around it wasn't going to be ideal for anybody. Although through it all we seem to push through it really well. I can't thank enough my co-director Melissa for aiding me with decisions with making calls from crew to cast. To crew and cast for bearing with me through this virtual experience and giving me their 110% with everything. To our amazing editing team for working with making our recordings as smooth as possible. A huge thank you to Ms. Bishoff for allowing me to direct in the first place. I was so glad I was able to direct and and see all of the hard work that came out it. Honestly  it was simply breathtaking. I understand how difficult it is to direct and give credit to those who are directors. Through it all I was so glad I was able to be a part of this theater group and I would like to thank everyone who allowed this to happen.

With the presentation of the one acts, I knew immediately that I wanted to take part in directing one. The first play that called to me was gossip so I emailed Mrs. Bishoff telling her I wanted to co-direct a play because I have only been a part of the backstage scene. I started my drama career in 9th grade in stage crew moving sets. Obviously, my experience with theatre and directing is very limited to behind the stage. Thankfully, Mrs. Bishoff put me and the amazing and wonderful Madison together to direct gossip. Along the way, Mrs.Bishoff helped me, Madison, and the other directors make this as best as we could. Im so thankful to be apart of this and especially helping direct.

Game of Tiaras-

“Once upon a time in a magical kingdom known as... “ Pasadena, a CHS Senior took on the role of director for the very first time...

Theatre has been a passion of mine, from writing and performing plays all the way back in third grade, to now finally taking a step into the world of directing. All of high school I had wanted to join theatre, but was too scared that I wouldn’t have enough time or know anyone. Finally making that scary jump last year was the best decision I’ve ever made, and brought me my best friends, leaving me so fulfilled. Fantasy genres have always been a favorite of mine and have always brought me so much joy. When I learned that we would be doing a spoof of Disney and Game of Thrones, I was immediately enthralled, my mind flooded with ideas. At that moment I knew that this was the show I wanted to direct and mold.

I feel like on the outside looking in, directing seems like such an easy task, a little extra project to add onto your daily life, but after being thrown into this loop I’ve realized it is so much more. This has by far been one of the most challenging yet educational and amazing experiences. It has taught me how to communicate, take leadership, and stay organized, all while allowing me to express myself and bring my visions to life. But I couldn’t bring this show to you all alone.

I’d love to thank my amazing cast for being so talented and cooperative. I put you guys through so much craziness and yet you all came to rehearsal smiling and prepared for anything- now you get to sleep in on Saturday mornings again ;) Thank you to my wonderful crew for pulling all of those props and costumes together so fast,  and doing them with such incredible detail. Thank you to our talented tech and production teams for adding so many fantastic extra touches to really make this fantasy come to life. And lastly, a huge thank you to Mrs. Bishoff for being my mentor throughout this whole project, and helping me sculpt and bring my vision to you all. I would’ve been so lost without her help, and this show would definitely not have compared if I had done it alone.

While the majority of you faced a tragic ending in this show, I hope that’s your love of theatre and performing never dies. Be strong, be confident, and most of all be happy!! I love you all and hope all you “PEASANTS” enjoy our show!!
