It has been a delight to work with these high-spirited kids during Shrek the Musical, Jr, ACT ONE’s second musical production for the youth of our community. You may find yourself wondering ‘What the Shrek is ACT ONE?!’
Court Square Theater’s ACT ONE Education Program was developed after a successful first summer of Theater Camps in 2022. These summer camps were designed to provide area students with opportunities to explore and hone their acting skills and increase their understanding of the theater world.
It became apparent that our community has a thirst for more opportunities to learn about and participate in the performing arts. CST’s ACT ONE program is designed to foster a love for and understanding of theater for all ages through instruction in the various aspects involved in bringing a production from script to stage.
Thanks to a partial sponsorship from the Community Foundation of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County’s Earlynn J. Miller Fund for the Arts*, we can do more to accommodate our community’s theater and art cravings!
Early Bird Registration is now open for Summer Musical Theater Camps. The three one-week camps will be held July 8-27. Learn more and register at courtsquaretheater.org.
Once we’ve recovered from the whirlwind of camp, we’ll announce auditions for next winter’s ACT ONE production for mature adults: Twelve Angry Jurors. In the meantime, adults wishing to get onstage and learn can explore our new Master Class Series! That’s right, we have expanded our education programming to include monthly Master Classes. Taught by a local artist, each intensive three-hour class focuses on a different artistic discipline. Our first Master Class, Sculpture with Bill Nelson, was a raging success!**
Lastly, I want to share the excitement of our upcoming May 4 Day of The Arts, designed to showcase the Arts in our community. Mark your calendar now - and stay tuned for details!
