     From the bustling streets of New York City in the late 19th century to our very own stage, the story of Newsies resonates with timeless themes of resilience, justice, and the power of community. This musical, inspired by the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, is a tribute to the unyielding spirit of youth and the belief that even the smallest voices can make an impact. Having started Curtain Up as a sophomore in high school, I wanted to be taken seriously as a director, artist, and entreprenuer. The things I have learned as we started this organization from nothing and watching it grow over the years are invaluble. It is so incredibly important to nuture the passions and skills of our youth, becuause they will be our future. I am so greatful that someone was willing to take a chance on me, even as a young 16 year old, because our impact has only continued to grow

     Directing Newsies has been a journey of discovery and inspiration. Our talented cast and crew have poured their hearts into bringing this story to life, capturing the energy, determination, and camaraderie that define this beloved musical. This show has definetley challenged us, but has also brought us closer together as a team, much like the newsboys themselves. The world of Newsies is one where dreams are chased, battles are fought, and victories are earned. It’s a world where the underdogs take a stand, proving that when we band together, we are stronger than the sum of our parts. This message is as relevant today as it was over a century ago, reminding us of the importance of standing up for what we believe in and supporting one another in the face of adversity. Even when it feels like we are the only voice willing to speak up.

     Given our two-week timeframe, the commitment and hard work from everyone involved has been nothing short of extraordinary. From the cast members who memorized lines, songs, and choreography at lightning speed, to the crew who pulled together lights, costumes, and technical elements, every single person has played an invaluable role. The collaborative spirit and camaraderie developed during this intensive process mirror the very essence of Newsies—the belief that we are stronger together.

     Our version of Newsies is a celebration of youthful spirit and collective effort. It's a testament to what can be achieved when we come together with a shared goal. Thank you for joining us and for supporting these young theatre makers.
