SAME Room, DIFFERENT Story - October 13 - October 15, 2021

Fullerton Union High School

 End Notes

Mr. Despars' Director's Notes

Welcome to the first production on an FUHS stage after an 18 month intermission due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. I am so relieved to finally be at a point where we can once again express ourselves and tell the important stories we want to tell from our stage. Same Room, Different Story is the first show to kick off our season which was designed to welcome back the whole family to the theatre. Over the past 18 months students have spent a lot of time in their rooms zooming through their classes, waiting for the chance to get outside, or, let's face it, sleeping. This production examines all the ways students interact in their bedrooms and since they have spent so much time there, it seemed like an accessible location for us to explore.

I would like to thank the following people: Donny Cannady, Cole FraustoMollie HolbrookAvery Hung, Evan Jacobson, and Daniel Mayfield who have been fantastic student directors and leaders. The Theatre 2/3 Class for jumping back on stage and living their best lives. The Technical Theatre Class for designing and constructing the set for this production.

Mollie Holbrook's Director's Note

The process of directing has been such a wonderful experience for me and I have enjoyed every second of it. I would like to thank the actors in my scene; Haley CroninNolan ShirkGabby Puentes, and Cole Frausto, for just being awesome, easy to work with, and making directing this scene so much fun. I would also like to thank Mr. Despars for showing me how this all works and helping me every step of the way.

Daniel Mayfield's Director's Note

The last couple years have been rather rough especially in theater, quarantine, a change in schools, and just my world being turned upside down in it's entirety. I'm proud to say I'm still here, in theater, and I'm directing a scene in Fullerton's first on stage show in more than two years. And I've put all the things I've learned in that time in my scene. I hope you all enjoy, thank you for coming to see our production of Same Room Different Story.

Donny Cannady's Director's Note

There are certain subjects that many are afraid to tackle due to their highly sensitive nature. Children living in a not directly abusive yet still mentally straining home is merely one of those subjects. And yet it deserves to be given just as much attention as any of the others, I hope this scene can at least act as a way to bring awareness for those living in the same or similar circumstances as the characters in this scene.

Cole Frausto's Director's Note

In such a hard time, it is great to have something fun as an outlet. I am so glad that I am a part of something special. This is my first time getting to direct. I have had such an amazing time doing it and I have gained so much experience.

I would like to thank my actors: JoJo FaresDalaila FloresConnor Udhusand Daniel Mayfield who have been doing amazing. I'd also like to thank Mr. Despars for helping and giving me constructive criticism. Lastly i'd like to send thanks to momdadMaddiNinagrams, and auntie.

Evan Jacobson's Director's Note

As a student and actor of the performing arts, it's so amazing to finally be back in the theater and experience true theatre for the first time in over a year and a half. This is my first time directing a scene and it was a challenge for me in the beginning. I have to give a lot of credit to Mr. Despars for being able to direct so many shows because he makes directing look easy. But as my cast and I continued to work together, rehearsal became so easy and so much fun to work together.I would like to thank my Dad and my Mom for inspiring me to want to direct. I would also like to thank Allison Duck, Emily Gjevre, Ava Carlson, Avery Hung, and Gus Pope for being such talented and creative people.

Avery Hung's Director's Notebook

This was my first time directing anything, so I want to say a huge thank you to all of my actors: Kai Beltran, Evan Hanson, Evan Jacobson, Charlotte Krammer, Rhyan Stevens, and Ren West! Also, thank you so much to Mr. Despars for helping me through this scary process!
