Nothing can come from Nothing. In Shakespeare’s classic play, where we have turned a king into a queen, the overall theme is family relationships. We have heard the phrase "Blood is thicker than water," alluding to the fact that family should come before everything else. But quickly we learn that those relationships can break down faster than cotton candy in the rain. Especially when wealth is involved. We see it in the headlines repeatedly: one family member betrays another for a handful of cash, tricks another into believing a priceless family heirloom is worthless, or stops speaking to a relative for the rest of their life because of an inheritance. That, in my opinion, is no way to live life. I hope the takeaway from this show is this: Cherish your family and loved ones, for if you treat them like nothing, you receive nothing in return.
Our production has been designed to be as family friendly as possible, so much of the violence and language has been eliminated or toned down. Our play takes place in the 1930’s. Prohibition is in full swing, but the liquid prohibited is water, which has become fatal to people. I hope you will enjoy joining us on this strange journey into an alternate universe.
I have many people to thank for helping make this show possible. Thanks to the City of Grand Junction and Edgewater Brewery for providing spaces to perform. Thanks to all the hardworking cast and crew who have volunteered time, energy, and materials to make this show a success. Thanks to the Downtown Development Authority for a wonderful place to rehearse and build. Thank you to the Geek Parties of the Grand Valley. Ann, Heather and Cas and all their helpers have created a wonderful organization, and I hope to be a part of many more projects. If you want to be involved in our madness, find out more by emailing geekpartiesofthegrandvalley@gmail.com.
Finally, thank you to you, our audience. Your attendance and donations make all of this possible. I hope that you enjoy this show, tell your friends, and become involved in future projects as a volunteer or by attending our events. I hope that you see that something can truly come of something.
