The Little Mermaid -

Golden Valley High School

 End Notes

If you are new to our audience, we welcome you and invite you to join our family. Students, remember, you do not have to be in the class to audition for the productions! GVHS Drama department has open arms, and is always welcoming more students in our classes and in our after school productions.  Behind the scenes, the generosity of donors, gracious administration, and support from community organizations and businesses have all helped make this production possible.

As the Director, I see Little Mermaid as a play about taking risks and following your passion, a moral that GVHS Performing Arts exemplifies. Next year, Drama, Music, and Art departments will be one step closer to our wildest dreams by following our passion to pilot MUHSD’s first Performing Arts Academy.

When I was creating my directorial vision, I saw a funny note on the moral of the play that I would like to share:

The Little Mermaid, while certainly social commentary on the power of autonomy and voice, if anything, is really an argument for literacy.

If Ariel had just been able to write Prince Eric a note, all the trouble would have been much quicker to resolve! But then, there would be no show!

Thank you for your support of GVHS and the power of community. We are very grateful you are a part of our world.

--Amber Kirby, Director

For all the little mermaids out there.

And for my mom, Tami, who forced me to be the ocean in Merced College’s Production of Little Mermaid, so, many, many years ago.
