Green River High School Theatre Department
As stated eloquently in the movie, The Greatest Showman, what P.T. Barnum did mattered because he was,
"Putting folks of all kinds on stage... all colors, shapes, sizes, presenting them as equals". Building our students to be better performers matters, but helping them become better people, citizens, community members, and neighbors truly matters.
The arts are the soul of education—the heartbeat that gives rhythm and color to all other learning. Here at Green River High School, we believe that theatre, music, and art are not extracurricular—they are essential. They teach empathy, creativity, discipline, collaboration, and courage. Within the walls of our theatre, students from every background and experience level—high schoolers and middle schoolers alike—come together to build something extraordinary. The arts remind us that school is not just about preparing for the future, but about discovering who we are right now.
Our production of The Addams Family shines a playful but powerful light on that truth. Beneath the humor, the ghoulish charm, and the catchy tunes lies a story about love, acceptance, and the beauty of being different. The Addamses aren’t “normal,” and that’s exactly what makes them extraordinary. They celebrate individuality, embrace honesty, and welcome every kind of weirdness the world has to offer.
In this show, we find ourselves reflected in the very things that make the Addams family so unusual—the longing to be seen, to be loved, and to belong just as we are.
For our students, this production is more than a performance; it’s a celebration of the courage it takes to live authentically. For our community, it’s a joyful reminder that when we make room for everyone—no matter how peculiar or misunderstood—we discover that even the strangest families can teach us the most human lessons of all.
