A Foreword from the Directors:
One household, all alike in dignity, In fair Messina, where we lay our scene… Much Ado About Nothing is the spunky, comical younger sibling of Romeo and Juliet. Although the work features classic Shakespeare motifs like family drama and faking deaths; it’s a more lighthearted work that ends in a dance party rather than a funeral. What happens in the lives of wealthy aristocrats that have a bit too much free time on their hands? This work was Shakespeare’s commentary on the foolishness and rigid values of the upper class, and how a little mindless gossip (or noting) can go a long way. We’ve staged the show in a family sitcom style to give a modern, relatable spin- All while staying true to Shakespeare’s original masterful script. We hope you enjoy the Shakespeare Society’s production of Much Ado About Nothing.
