Almost, Maine - November 15 - November 18, 2018

Hemlock High School

 Director's Note

I fell in love with the imaginary town of Almost, Maine and its residents in the winter of 2008. While many shows depict almost inconceivable events throughout the life of the play, Almost, Maine tackles the most basic of storylines: human connection.

In this day and age of communicating via text messages, Snapchats, and Facebook they all lack the very reason we use them: authentic communication. We still stay connected and communicate, but not in the same way a phone call or even a face to face meeting does. To have that companionship and share in laughter, sadness, love, or anger is a basic need all humans long for.

Almost, Maine has a beautiful way of capturing these quirky people and their personalities. They have the purest of intentions. From Gayle who just wants to FINALLY be married to Lendall, to Marci and Phil who so desperately want the other's compassion, but have no way of achieving it. To Chad and Randy who are struggling in the relationship department, but find solace and companionship in the strong friendship they share and are not afraid to verbally express it.

This show has given the students a wonderful opportunity to each have their standout moments and learn the very basics of acting. They have worked tirelessly to portray these characters with as much honesty and simplicity as possible. It has been an honor to watch the students improve week after week and I hope they are as proud of themselves as I am of them.

Putting on a production like Almost, Maine is no easy feat and I have several individuals to thank for their support:

First, my husband Michael LeGrow. He never fails to pull through in areas where I'm weak, specifically set build. His help is greatly appreciated, especially when it means sacrificing an afternoon of college football.

Mr, Marietta for the use of his bench as it saved us from having to purchase or build one of our own.

Secretary Jamie Galbraith for answering sall my emails so quickly and overseeing our ticket presale.

Countless drama students who stepped up and helped out when they weren't even asked.

And finally, you, our audience. Your support for these students means the world to them and without you we would not have a drama club. Please continue to support our Middle School and High School drama clubs, so we can continue to offer this awesome opportunity for the youth of Hemlock.

We hope you enjoy the show!
