The Burnt Part Boys - June 18 - June 20, 2021

History Boy Theatre Company

 End Notes

Notes from the Director

For all the wrong reasons, I understand, but 20 straight years of three shows a year, going silent this past year was kind of a nice break!  I am refreshed and ready to roll! It's been on my list for years to try an outdoor production and The Burnt Part Boys is set mostly outside and it's a show I've been obsessed with for years.

The challenges have been mighty and thank goodness Michael came back from New York!  We haven't done a show this vocally difficult since

Company.  Even I have to harmonize in this show!

I want to mention how proud I am of my co-director....."I made that!"

----Special thanks to all of you for climbing to The Burnt Part with us

This was the first time I've ever really jumped into the director role here, sure I  helped out a bit here and there with some other shows in the past but this show was all in.  I'm calling it the year of transitions, for me that means transitioning out of producing (my safe zone) into directing (the unknown).  I am happy that I got to kind of "sit out" from the acting role and learn all the ins and outs of this carzy thing called directing.  Turns out I have a little bit of a knack for it, maybe it runs in the family? I am grateful for my Dad and for his pushing me to do the things that scare me a lilttle bit, and for being my teacher, showing me what directing really is. I guess maybe I'll even try it again sometime.

I fell in love with The Burnt Part Boys the first time I listened to the cast recording. Such beauty, you know the kind that gives you goosebumps. Laugher, tears, heartwarming, uplifting are just a few of the many words I could use to describe this piece of art, but I'll let you be the judge of that.  I am so proud of our cast, especially the youngins who dove head first into all the challenges and never looked back. The hard work paid off. And to Michael, I am so grateful to you and all the extra work you put in. Though I had to sit this one out on the acting side, I appreciate being able to see this show from a different vatnage point and the opportunity to watch it grow into something special.

Of course, we could not even think about doing this without all of you.  The rocks of this theatre, our patrons. Thank you for your continued support throughout the years and showing us some love.  My biggest hope is that you now enjoy your journey with us to The Burnt Part!
