Godspell - November 10 - November 12, 2023

Jeffersonville High School

 A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

When I was a senior in high school, I was a member of a show choir called "The Showstoppers" who normally would perform medleys and revues with choreography and costumes, typical show choir stuff. This particular year, our director decided that as a group we would put on a full-fledged theatre show, a quirky, 70's-themed musical based on the Bible called Godspell. And instead of being a part of the on-stage ensemble, I was tasked with leading a student band to provide live music for the show. To this day that experience stands out as one of the formative times of my development as a musician, a performer, and a leader.

Fast forward many years (I won't specify how many) and that same high school kid is privileged to now be teaching a musical theatre class that will take the same stage that I and my classmates did performing the same musical. While it is always exciting to see students of all levels of experience come together to put on a show, this time there is a deeper sense of meaning behind it.

I am particularly proud of this cast because this group came in this year a little greener than some other casts we have had. Some of our ensemble have never performed on a stage before while some have had years of experience. Nevertheless, they have coalesced to bring a uniquely presented production that is sure to please. The central theme of Godspell is community - a group of people following a teacher and pursuing a common goal of loving one another and looking to the sacrifice of One who is willing to give His life for His followers. This cast has learned how to strive to live these ideals as we have put this production together and it's exhilarating to see.

Thank you as always for your continued support for our great students and for your patronage of the arts in Southern Indiana. We cannot continue offering our kids these opportunities without your help, and you always show up in a big way and for that I am incredibly grateful. Let's keep up the good work, day by day.
