Little Women - March 18

Jserra Catholic High School

 Director's Note

Dear JSerra Friends and Family,

Welcome to Little Women! Thank you for joining us. It has been quite a journey to get to this point, and I am so glad we are finally here!! The cast and crew have worked incredibly hard and managed the oddest and unique circumstances due to COVID-19 with grace and class. We have been so blessed to have been able to meet in person and produce this show. I know I speak not only for myself but for the cast and crew too, that we are so excited to have you here!

Little Women was a collaborative effort between the JSerra Theatre Company and the JSerra Film Department. We also worked with our school sound engineer, Brendan Lank. Collectively we have recorded over two full-length albums worth of music, staged a full musical, and filmed a full-length film. Students designed and built the set, costumes, makeup, hair, props, advertising, publicity, lighting, sound, stage crew, and worked as camera operators. None of this would be possible without their incredible talents and efforts.

Little Women, an iconic American literature classic, has been brought to the stage (and our screens) in such a delightful way. It is a story of determination, family, and being true to yourself, all themes that seem to resonate with the last year we have all had.

On a personal note, it reminds me of my growing up in my own family. My mother, a quintessential Marmee in her own right as she is quite a fierce protector and advocate for her each of her daughters. She had told me that before my sister and I were born, she prayed for God to give her strong-willed daughters. She later said she thinks she prayed too hard because God went over and above in answering her prayer! Ha! So much like the March sisters, each daughter on their own path to their destinies – no holds barred.

I certainly hope that you all enjoy this marvelous production. So, sit back, relax, grab some popcorn and enjoy, Little Women!
