Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins Jr. - February 05

Katz Yeshiva High School of South Florida

  End Notes

Joy is in the air, it’s the month of Adar!

We are enjoined to feel the happiness ushered in with the advent of this month, משנכנס אדר מרבים בשמחה.

 Are you feeling it?

Truth be told, most of us struggle with how to be happy. How to be joyous when life presents us with so many struggles- how to be ebullient when we’re overwhelmed with so much anxiety and stress- how to feel cheerful when we encounter painful challenges. Enter Mary Poppins with the elixir for simchat Adar in her bottomless tote. It’s the secret of just a “spoonful of sugar”, not very popular in today’s hyper sensitive, nutritional war against sugar. Nevertheless, I for one, would forego conventional, contemporary wisdom for the sagacious advice of our beloved nanny, Mary Poppins. A spoonful of sugar certainly helps the medicine go down, it brightens our moods, lifts our spirits and sweetens the bitterness. Medicine is indeed bitter- real or imagined, the pain we feel is a pungent pill intended to ultimately make us stronger, healthier, more resilient and wiser. A spoonful of sugar, in the form of a donut, chocolate, or just rose colored lenses, does wonders to help that “medicine go down in the most delightful way!”

Thank you Jill and each and every one of our talented thespians and crew for ensuring that this Adar brings us a rush of joy with this wonderful Rosh Chodesh Adar treat.
-Mrs. Ora-Lee Kanner
