Disney Frozen Jr. - July 26 - July 27, 2019

 Director's Notes

In the 2000’s we have seen some of the strongest and bravest female cultural icons as role models for our up-and-coming generations. We have record breaking soccer super star Megan Rapinoe teaching us to “love more, hate less”, we have glass ceiling shattering politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez working tirelessly to bring equality for all persons, and we have Anna and Elsa, two of the most influential Disney heroine’s to ever grace the silver screen.

Disney fans were pleasantly shocked when the “true love” storyline of the 2013 megahit Frozen turned out to be the true love shared between sisters, and not a princess and her prince. (Sorry for the spoiler alert, but is there really anyone who hasn’t seen the film?!) The stage adaptation has done a brilliant job at capturing not only the love between the sisters, but the self-love each sister must realize in herself in order to find her own “happily ever after”.

Throughout this program we have encouraged the Drama Force students to consider their own self-love, and the importance in maintaining that love as they continue through this adventure we call life. Like Anna and Elsa, each of these inspirational students has found a bravery and strength in themselves they may not have realized they had within them. By focusing on loving ourselves, we are able to stand tall and “let go” of adversary, to take life’s challenges head on and move with confidence through the world.

…we have also had a LOT of fun! It is no wonder that the music of Frozen has made such an enormous impact, and how even six years later it is impossible to get these songs out of your head. So why fight it? Sing along with your favourite characters, and allow yourself to get lost in the magic.

Cheers!
