Bye Bye Birdie - April 24 - May 02, 2015

Kyrene Aprende Middle School

 Notes from the Directors

Welcome to the Jaguar Players Spring Musical! We have had an already successful year so we are hoping to continue this success with the classic musical, Bye Bye Birdie.

Bye Bye Birdie opened on Broadway, April 14, 1960 starring Chita Rivera and Dick Van Dyke as Rose and Albert. In 1963 MGM studios adapted Birdie into a movie-musical. Dick Van Dyke and Paul Lynde reprised their original roles. Joining the cast were Janet Leigh, and a then unknown Ann-Margret. The show was most recently revived on Broadway in 2009 and starred John Stamos as Albert Peterson and Gina Gershon as Rosie Alvarez. This show is an extremely popular choice for both middle schools and high schools for the past 50 years. (In fact, I was in it when I was in middle school!)

I am so proud of the hard work and dedication this cast and crew has put into this show. We have created our own little theater community here at Aprende where students learn from each other, support each other, and truly collaborate for the good of the production. I am honored to be a part of it all.

I have to thank my extremely dedicated and talented Technical Directors, David Holdcraft, Lydia Kiel and Sharon Smith, for helping to make the Jaguar Players what it is. They have truly put their blood, sweat, and tears into this production and I am forever grateful. I know that we could not be where we are, putting on a production this scale, without their help, support, and enthusiasm.

I also have to thank our wonderful Jaguar Players Booster Club for supporting us on this journey. Our Board and Members-at-Large have truly devoted their time and energy into making the Jaguar Players a remarkable program that continues to develop and grow.

Also, I would like to thank my friends and family for their love and support. A special thank you to my wonderful new husband, Ryan, for being patient and understanding during my long work days (while planning the wedding) and tech week schedule.

Last, but not least, I want to thank you for coming to see our show. We can’t perform without an audience so thank you for being here and supporting Arts Education. And if you want to support the Arts even more, please buy refreshments, souvenirs, t-shirts, DVDs, or make a direct donation at the box office.

Enjoy the show and we hope to see you back for our 2015-2016 season!
