Note from the Director
During these troubled times, as we all live on a precipice, experiencing our own dark night of the soul, I hope you will discover a deep connection to Tennessee Williams’s magnificent play.
Director, Emily Mann
Note from the Producer
La Femme is thrilled to render this pre-recorded reading of Tennessee Williams's "The Night of the Iguana," directed by the incomparable Emily Mann and featuring a stellar cast, led by Dylan McDermott and Phylicia Rashad. In May of this year, when I realized the gravity of the theater shutdown, I decided to make lemonade out of pandemic lemons. My first goal was to ask Emily Mann to direct a reading of "The Night of the Iguana." Then, when I saw a McCarter Theatre Live interview with her and Dylan McDermott about their collaborations on two other Tennessee Williams's plays, I became even more determined to make the reading a reality. And here we are with this extraordinary director, creative team, and cast collaborating on this iconic play about coping with social, political, and personal anxieties to elude paralytic panic. As we navigated around a few cyber challenges in our collaborative journey, I believe that we did indeed create lemonade under the brilliant direction of Emily Mann. So, drink up!
