LAPA performing at Junior Theater Festival in Sacramento
The Lana’i Academy of Performing Arts (LAPA) will be taking a group of students, directors, and chaperones to the Junior Theater Festival in Sacramento, California from February 4-11, 2019. The Junior Theater Festival (JTF) is the world’s biggest and best celebration of young people performing musical theater.
JTF brings together student musical theater troupes from all over the world for a weekend of musical theater mayhem and madness. Each troupe performs fifteen minutes from a Broadway Junior show for adjudication by a panel of musical theater experts. LAPA will be performing a 15-minute selection from its 2016 production of Shrek the Musical Jr. The weekend also features professional development for teachers, workshops for students and parents, a New Works Showcase featuring new musical adaptations soon to be released and concludes with a grand finale concert headlined by Broadway’s best! Last year over 1,500 students attended from all across the country.
The cost to attend is $1,700 per student and $1,450 per chaperone, and includes airfare, hotel, festival entry fee, ground transportation, food, and a special day trip to San Francisco. Students have been fundraising over the past year and a half to help bring down the overall cost for their families. LAPA is also applying for grants and will be posting a GoFund Me video online as a means for people to donate. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our Lana’i kids to experience theater and meet kids from all over the country, and we are very excited to be traveling to Sacramento next February to represent Lana’i!
