Shrek The Musical - April 24 - May 02, 2015

Liberty High School

 End Notes

NOTES FROM THE DIRECTOR:

So, this may be the biggest undertaking yet for Liberty Theatre! Not only was the set ginormous (yep, a real word, originated in WWII, I looked it up!), the makeup and costume requirements were daunting, even though we rented most of the show, we discovered we had to build a large number of costumes as well. Casting was a challenge. Turns out, we needed some people who could be very strong dancers, others who could be very strong singers, and all of them had to be actors that made an impression. We needed to cast two young performers for our Young Shrek/Grumpy and Young Fiona. The process took almost two weeks, and we had over 95 students audition!

Liberty Theatre has been a growing program for the last decade or more, and this year, we were able to start a parent booster group! They have been a tremendous help and have come forth with phenomenal ideas for a variety of aspects to improve how we do things here. I am excited to see where we can take it in the future!

As you may have noticed, there have been other changes as well. We are running this production over two weekends. We felt this show and this cast and crew were ready to try an extended run like this. We hope you like the results. Although it won't be our normal show run, it felt right for this production.

As usual, we are saying goodbye to a number of Seniors who have made huge impacts on the theatre program here at Liberty. Among the many others who work so hard, they have worked longer than most, and their pride in what they do and the work they turn out should be recognized. They are exceptional student theatre practitioners, and I can't imagine the productions we put on stage being nearly as high in quality without them. I will not forget them, and I have been honored to work with them. I wish them all the best and I hope they know they have made an indelible impression on me and the Liberty Theatre program.

Enjoy the show!
