Synopsis
Welcome to River City, Iowa. Today is July 3rd, 1912, and it's scorchingly hot. The kids of the town are playing with their friends and are thankful that school's out. Moms and dads are going about their business, making sure not to look bothered at all by the heat--it simply wouldn't do to complain. The busy-body Pick-a-Little Ladies are up to their usual gossiping, which tends to center around the town's spinster librarian, Marian Paroo. All in all, it's a perfectly normal day.
Then a train comes into the station...
Out steps Professor Harold Hill, intent on swindling yet another town out of hard earned money. He runs into his old friend Marcellus, a fellow con who's settled down into civilian life and starts the grift. Most of the town falls for the charming Professor, but just like Marcellus warned, Marian senses a rat.
