Words from the Creator and Director:
Thank you so much to all of the wonderful cast and crew for your hard work and dedication on this project.
For quite a while, writer's block sat on my heart, and I let harsh experiences convince me that my words weren't worthy enough to be listened to. In a world that often overlooks black women, especially those with thick accents, I was sadly convinced that my voice would never protect me or uplift me. Who would listen?
I thank Conch Shell Productions and Tasia Brown for encouraging me to present the swirl of ideas in my head, for creating spaces for black writers to feel uplifted.
I thank Ma, the buxom to my bammy, my great-grandmother, who was my motivating force to create. A woman who traveled to America in the midst of political and social turmoil, and would "puff out har chest" to speak her mind whenever it was necessary. A woman who raised three generations, all while cooking and caring for each of them.
I also thank Mimi, my great-grandmother, a woman from a different island, cut from the same cloth of bold and loving action.
I pray this piece of art lives to shed light on the ongoing fight with Alzhiemer's Dementia, and I pray it encourages everyone to research caregiving and prevention.
Love you all.
