Part of the proceeds from the NCS production of Thoroughly Modern Millie will go to the Dunamis Foundation in Quito, Ecuador.  Fuel the Mission, a Phoenix-based Christian non-profit ministry, is partnering with the Dunamis Foundation to build a rescue home for adolescent girls rescued from sex and labor trafficking. Twenty young girls will live in the home upon completion, receiving not only a permanent, safe refuge in which to grow up, but also an education, help with their babies, Christian counseling, mentoring, medical care and technical skills training. In a country where adult prostitution is legal in brothels, even Christians there feel overwhelmed and are often unwilling to help these whom they deem “lost to the trade."

The Foundation already invests in the lives of these girls, ages 12 to 17, in a day program in which they teach them life skills and mentor them in Jesus’ name. One skill for which the girls can earn an income is designing and crafting jewelry which is made from indigenous tagua seeds. Each girl receives 100% of the proceeds from the sale of their jewelry, enabling them to purchase needed items for themselves and their children. One-of-a-kind pieces are available for purchase in the lobby before and after each show.

To learn more about the Dunamis Foundation and the new home, which should be completed this summer, please visit fuelthemission.org. We are honored that Northwest Christian School has selected this ministry to “give back” to those helping sex trafficking victims. May this production highlight not only the harm inflicted on innocent children, but their ultimate rescue as well. God bless you and enjoy the show!
