Anastasia - April 22 - May 01, 2022

Oak Hill High School

 End Notes

When I was in 7th grade, the 20th Century Fox movie Anastasia came out.  I remember being enthralled watching the VHS multiple times each time I was allowed to rent it from the movie rental shop just down the street from our house.  I begged my parents to buy me the CD, and I finally got that.  I still have it.  I can honestly say that soundtrack was the most played CD I had in my childhood (and yes, I've played it since).  I remember watching the story of Anya and wanting to be like her: strong, vulnerable but yet not afraid to take risks. She was a role model.  And we don't even need to talk about how cute Dmitry was...ha!  I would spend hours in my bedroom after school writing out how I would choreograph it if it were on stage.  I'd perform it, and sing it as loud as I could with dance in my second story bedroom right above my parents living room.  Needless to say, I was told many times to stop.

When this show came to Broadway, I returned to my obsession.  And with its changes from the animated movie, the show had grown up with me.  No more scary Rasputin, or the super cute bat, Bartok. Now it was a grown up story, but kept the original songs (and added more!).  It's honestly a dream for a fanatic.  And I am that fanatic.

I could not ask for a better cast to put on this production.  The heart you will see on stage is magical.  If you don't leave here feeling inspired by these kids, we have not done our job.  I hope you see their hard work, long hours, lots of thought process and discussion, and joy for performing.  We are so blessed to be able to perform for you.

There are a few people I would like to thank and recognize:

To my seniors:
