A note of thanks from Artistic Director, Robin Downward
I'd like to take some time to say thank you to some people who help to make my life easier. It isn't easy running a theater. It takes many, many people – all volunteers – to make this theater work, and work it does!
As always, a HUGE thank you to Mr. David Sours , our House Manager. He and all of the wonderful support staff of volunteers work for hours outside of what you see at the theater. We could not do what we do without them. Add to that, you wouldn't be as comfortable if they weren’t here to serve you.
To the Randall Theatre Board of Directors – they have believed in me from the beginning and always ask “How can I help you more”? I love each one of them. I know they would all take a bullet for me – so to speak. Kathy, Daniel, the two John's and Steven – I appreciate each one of you.
To my Sister – Toni Holley and my Nephew Russell Medeiros. They moved up here from California and have single handedly transformed a part of the Randall that had lacked support. We now have a wonderful team of scenic designers, a sound engineer, a costumer, a props person, a budding stage manager and a wonderful director just between the two of them. I am so thankful to have them here with me, sharing the legacy of my brother. I love you guys!
To Mr. Dan Wines – He has been with me the longest in my local endeavors. He has always been a volunteer for the Randall from before it even got off the ground. He is a jack of all trades. Many of the small improvements you see at the theater – new doors, new lights, new trim, new walls, even our sets are all due to his tireless work. I thank him as a great volunteer and a good friend.
Thank you for joining our family. As we enter into our second show of our fourth season we are humbled by the show of support and interest in what we have achieved in such a short time. Our success is due to the wonderful volunteers and staff that have embraced the idea that when we put our differences aside and work as one, anything can be accomplished. But more than that, we have grown due to the patrons who have chosen to come and experience theater at our humble home. We hope you find the experience at the Randall a pleasant one.
In 2012, we changed to a full “Pay What You Want” at the door format. As one of only four theaters in the United States to have that distinction, we are proud to say that it is not only working for us, but more importantly working for those who wish to enjoy theater but cannot afford to see it any other way. Those of you who pay for reserved seats help so much in allowing us to provide theater for those who perhaps find it difficult to pay that amount – they must decide between groceries or gas and entertainment. The $12, $15 or even $20 you pay helps those who cannot afford higher prices. I thank you for allowing us to keep them involved in experiencing live theater.
Five years ago I was told that starting a theater company in a down economy was insane. I was told that since there were already so many theaters in the area, one more would never work. I was told that a Pay What You Want format for ticket sales was the worst idea ever! Interesting how passion and drive can delete all things negative. As we drive ahead through 2014, we look forward to meeting new friends and saying “Hello” to old ones. We are here to serve the community by providing a venue where people can come to enjoy quality theater in a relaxed atmosphere at a price everyone can afford.
Thank you very much! Robin Downward
