Love, Loss and What I Wore - October 12 - October 14, 2018

Red Magnolia Theatre Company

 DIRECTOR NOTES

Love, Loss, and What I Wore is not about clothes. It’s not about shoes, or purses, or weight. Or, to be more precise it is not just about these things. It is a play about how we live our lives while experiencing the mundane and the fantastic, the joyous and the mournful. It’s about the way we remember these moments. These stories told tonight cross racial, age, and socio-economic lines to unite all of us though what we wear, and how we remember.

When I first read Love, Loss, and What I Wore I was struck by the way the women told their stories. Each monologue begins with a description of something worn then evolves into the memory attached to it. Memory is more than mental recall; memory is embodied action. That is what drew to this show, and I why I wanted to direct it. How we remember is as important as the memories themselves, and those stories are worth telling. Throughout the rehearsal process for this show the cast and crew have shared stories like those in script, remembering not only what we have loved and lost, but also what we wore.

Thank you for coming to this show, and supporting Red Magnolia Theatre Company.
