Into The Woods . . . I remember the first time I watched the original Broadway production on VHS on my VCR (I know, I know). I was overjoyed when Disney remade it in 2018, and absolutely thrilled to see it return to Broadway for a limited engagement this past year.
The fun thing about revivals, and the movie musical trend that is happening right now, is the accessibility. People from all over and of all ages are now being exposed to musical theater like never before.
It was so inspiring to have the kids approach us with the possibility of doing Into The Woods this year. It is a delightfully challenging show for a number of reasons, the biggest one being the musical score which is deceivingly difficult even in the Junior version.
Hats off to our fabulous cast for taking on this challenge.
Thank you to our building administrators for always supporting our aspiring performers. Thank you to our Fairy Godmother, Dr. Ten Dyke, for never saying no. For always allowing us to dream bigger. Special thanks to our Superintendent, Dr. Wortham, for her unmatched and relentless support of the Arts.
Special thanks to our custodial staff and security team for taking care of us every day, rain or shine. You guys are more dependable than the postal service.
To the RPA Dream Team, the little show that could. We knew this show would be a challenge and a complete change from the way we have done things the last 2 years. Getting back to basics was great, but did not come without its challenges. We’ve proven once again that teamwork makes the dream work.
To our cast, thank you for trusting us on this journey. Thank you for allowing us to push you outside of your comfort zone every day throughout this process. Thank you for your hard work. Never be afraid to dream big dreams and work hard to make them a reality.
To our wonderful parents, thank you for dance shoes, rides to and from rehearsals, and dropping off dinners. We definitely could not have done this without you.
Mark Twain said, “Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” I have not worked a single day in the last 10 years. Thank you for entrusting me with the beautiful children of our beautiful community. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to bring a little of the magic of musical theater to our one square mile.
Into the woods, and out of the woods, and home before dark,
Mrs. Regan
