Welcome to the Schechter Boston Class of 2022’s production of Grease! This presentation marks the 30th year of all-Hebrew musicals at Schechter Boston. In that time-honored tradition, we are excited and proud to present this fun and timeless musical in an all-Hebrew format.
High school is a challenging time in many people’s lives: trying to discover our own identity while also navigating the socially dangerous world of adolescence. On its surface, Grease is a reminder of the simple joys of youth, dancing, and love. But it is also a show that asks us questions about personal change and identity. What does it mean to be popular? Should we change for someone else? Should we change for love? The answers to these questions are different for everyone and the Rydell High Class of 1959 find their own answers on their journey to discover their still-developing identities.
Theater is a part of my identity and that is in large part due to my positive experiences at Schechter. As a Schechter alumnus, it means a great deal to me to be able to return to direct this production after also previously performing in one. To be a part of a community tradition that has continued for thirty years, to be a part of this piece of our community’s identity, is something too special to be captured in words.
Thank you to the amazing 8th grade students who have met this awesome challenge. Thank you to everyone who made this production possible—a special thanks is nowhere near enough. Thank you to everyone, over the past thirty years, who has supported and been a part of Schechter’s incredible continuing theater tradition which made this production possible.
Enjoy the show!
