The Myths at the Edge of the World - December 04 - December 07, 2014

South Pointe High School

 End Notes

Good evening!

Thank you for joining us on this exciting journey this evening.  I started this journey 17 years ago with Myths... as an undergrad at UNC Charlotte in the role of Ted.  We worked for an entire semester on the creation of the show with our professors Matt Webster, Pamela Sofras, and Rita Shumaker.  We had a great time putting it together and performing it at UNC Charlotte.  Then we toured the show for a semester all across Charlotte-Mecklenburg elementary schools and to Alabama and Colorado for professional conventions.  This show holds a very special palce in my heart.

To be able to work with my students to create our own unique version of this show while working with my mentor and friend Matt Webster was even more magical.  He and my students graciously gave up their Saturday mornings to come together to create theatre and to explore the backgrounds of each of the four myths you will experience tonight.

We have had a wonderful time creating together.  We hope you enjoy the journey as the myths live on and continue tonight on the South Pointe Stage.  You will see hints of Beijing Opera, Chinese Shadow Puppetry, African Storytelling, African Dance, Greek Choral Movement, Greek Mask Work, and Tableua all mixed into a magical hour of theatre for youth / children's theatre that we will also be sharing with elementary students of Rock Hill Schools.

Very special thank you to Matt Webster for giving of your time and talents so freely and for continuing to be someone I admire and look up to greatly.  Also, we wish to thank the Rock Hill Foundation for the generous grant to fund this project.

Thank you for being here this evening!

Sincerely,

Jimmy Chrismon
