Daddy Long Legs - January 27 - January 29, 2022

Southern Utah University

  Producer's Note

This dream of mine began in the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic. I had put in a hypothetical plea to the department, then later in September of 2021, I officially submitted a proposal to the Black Box Grant Committee expressing my interest in producing and staring in this, one of my very favorite musicals, Daddy Long Legs. It was a last-ditch effort to find a way to be a part of something I was truly passionate about before finishing my time here at SUU. Though I had the best-laid plans and had meticulously thought out every detail of just how to accomplish this, I didn’t let myself hope or even believe I would get it. However, If you are reading this, here we are! It’s really happening!  It has been a long journey and we wouldn’t be where we are without the incredible generosity and help we have received from others. Through reaching out to various Community Theaters in Southern Utah we were able to raise the funds necessary to purchase the rights for this beautiful show. We also have SUU’s VP of Finance, Makayla Brown, to thank for the funds we received to afford the beautiful musical tracks that you will be hearing. What makes this production so special is that it is completely run by students. Each member of our team has contributed significantly to the success of this production. It simply wouldn’t have been possible without every single one of them, considering we only had a 3-week rehearsal process; these students are genuinely incredible. It seems so fitting to me that many themes in this story touch on the power of charity and what it means to give others a chance, as this experience has been just that for me. It is not one I will soon forget and cannot wait to share with you. I hope you, too, will discover the secret of happiness.
