From The Director
As a High School Theatre Teacher, I have to balance each year when picking shows. The things I look at are; 1) Shows that are fun for the students, and that they want to do. 2) Shows that our community wants to see. 3) Shows that will stretch my students as performers. This show is one that in my honest opinion does all 3. Broadway musicals that are written for 4 people, don't come along very often, or are usually too mature for a high school student. Title of Show is different, it's a show that my students relate to, and it's still accessible for everyone to get the jokes (at least most of them. lol) My job as a teacher is to get my students to grow, regardless of what they do with the rest of their lives, theatre will always be a part of them.
Title of Show is a true story, documenting the making of a Broadway musical, but it is also a classic tale of friendship and self-discovery. Throughout this piece we watch the growth of a group of individuals, struggling to take risks and not compromise their creativity, all the while working towards the goal of sharing their message to an ever increasing audience. As they sing in the final song of the show, they'd "rather be nine people's favorite thing, than a hundred people's ninth favorite thing" I think these words are really the theme to this show, and I know there will be some people who will leave this show wondering, "What the heck was that?" On the other hand, I hope there are at least nine people who leave this show, ready to slay their vampires or renew their desire to become "Part of it all."
Every day, I look around my department and see some of the best and brightest students in our school. I come to work every day - sometimes completely exhausted - but knowing that each and every student in my department is committed to giving our audiences some of the most entertaining theatre in the county. We love what we do and we hope you will too.
For some of my students this show is the 2nd show of their final year at Stansbury High School. They have accomplished so much, and are going to accomplish so much more. I dedicate this show to them, and to their parents who've given me the support and friendship over the years. We've come so far since this school opened, and I look forward to what we can accomplish in the years to come.
Thanks and Enjoy the show!
